The goal of the contest, which ended on Feb. 15, was to recognize outstanding citizens who are making a positive impact on their community through volunteer service, mentorship or dedication of their resources. And after carefully reviewing hundreds of nominations, the selection committee has chosen the grand prize winner of the 2016 Community Heroes Contest:
Direct Auto & Life Insurance is proud to recognize Dale Presely of Orlando, Florida, as the 2016 Black History Month Community Hero Recipient for his outstanding service to his community.
Dale has served as a mentor and sports coach for over 25 years. He founded both Voice in the Wilderness, a non-profit for troubled youth, and the Black Student Union at Wekiva High School in Orlando, as well as supporting anti-violence initiatives in his community such as “Stop the Killing, Start Living” movements. He is truly the embodiment of a community hero.
So, we headed down to Orlando to meet with Dale and learn more about the work he’s doing there in his community. Check out his story below!
