  1. Sewanee, Tennessee (approximately 1 hour 30-minute drive)

Just a short drive away, this tiny town has 13,000 acres of beautiful valleys and trees on the Cumberland Plateau. Sewanee is home to the small college The University of the South, which is surrounded by Gothic architecture and enchanting forests. If you’re looking to spend a little time outdoors, there are plenty of trails to hike and bike, such as the 20-mile university Perimeter Trail with 10 hiking trails and the perfect opportunity to yodel through the woods.

  1. Paducah, Kentucky (approximately 2 hour drive)

A successful railway hub, this town is full of history and civil war museums, such as the famous Paducah Railroad Museum. If you love the barbeque and beer in Nashville, then you might have an appetite for their local barbeque and breweries. Walk off your food by hitting the walking trails or the riverfront for an amazing view of the Ohio River and the flood wall murals which depict Paducah’s history.

  1. Chattanooga, Tennessee (approximately 2 hours 30-45 minutes)

All aboard! Set your sights on a visit to see the historical downtown Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel, a former train station that transported more than 50 passenger trains a day! In honor of Memorial Day, pay tribute to those who have served at the famous battleground, Chickamunga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Feeling like a kid during the holiday?   1. Memphis, Tennessee (approximately 3 hour drive)

Downtown Memphis is where you’ll find tons of things to eat, see and do, along with a fantastic view of the mighty Mississippi River, the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge and the Bass Pro Shops Sportsman’s Center at the Pyramid. Visit the historic National Civil Rights Museum, Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum or the Mud Island Riverwalk! Go wild and bring the family along to the Memphis Zoo for a free visit!

  1. Asheville, North Carolina (approximately 4 hour 30-minute drive)

A little further of a drive will land you in the magical mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. Although a small mountain town, it is home to the largest private residence in the country, The Biltmore Estate! If you’re looking to let loose, there are several ziplining, mountain biking and trails, such as Asheville Treetop Adventure Park, for the whole family to enjoy. You can feed your need for nature by strolling through the Botanical Gardens of Asheville, hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains or stumbling upon waterfalls at Looking Glass Falls and Linville Fall all for free!
