Yoga at the Nashville Public Library

A dollar won’t buy you much these days… unless you’re holding a Nashville Public Library card. At the Nashville Public Library, you can keep your dollar and get access to countless resources and services for free.

And we’re not just talking about checking out books. Need help filing your taxes? AARP and/or VITA provide income tax filing assistance at select library locations. Want to grow your own garden? They’ve got workshops for that, too! You might be surprised to learn just how much stuff the library offers.

Did you know about all of these free things you can do at the Nashville Public Library besides borrowing books?

Stream music and movies
It’s a little known fact that the library gives you free access to tons of online music and video content through platforms like Hoopla and Freegal Music.

Work on your fitness and nutrition
Free exercise, meditation, cooking, and other healthy living events are available at all 21 locations as part of an initiative called Be Well at NPL. These events include yoga classes, dance classes, and even music therapy for kids. Check the events schedule to see when classes are available at your local branch!

Bring your kids and teens, too
The library offers activities for people of all ages, even kiddos and teens! Story time is one of the most popular children’s activities at the library, but there are dozens of other events throughout the year for little ones. Teen workshops in creative writing, photography, and even video and television production are also available through the Studio at NPL.

Get hands-on help from the pros
Whether you need help filing your taxes or enrolling in an affordable health insurance plan (we can help with that one, too!), you might find the help you’re looking for at a library branch near you.

Learn new stuff
Besides the gardening workshops, computer classes, and other in-person learning opportunities at the library, you also have access to many online programs. As a library cardholder, you’ll get access to DIY learning resources like Lynda.com (video tutorials for software, creative, and business skills), brainHQ (brain training exercises), and ArtistWorks.com (video music lessons for popular instruments).

What are you waiting for? Go now, get a library card! It’s free for Davidson County residents, Metro Government employees, and people who live within the Goodlettsville city limits. Sign up for a library card online or at one of the Nashville Public Library locations listed here:
