Did you know the American Heart Association recommends adults get 150 minutes of exercise each week? Finding the time to exercise is one thing, but if your neighborhood isn’t a great place to walk or run, figuring out where to do it can be even more difficult–especially considering how pricey gym memberships can be. It turns out, though, there are many affordable options to consider if you’re trying to get fit in Nashville for cheap.

Metro Parks Community Centers
If you live in Nashville, you can’t be far from one of Metro Parks’ Regional or Community Centers. The daily admission rate to the fitness centers is only $3, but use of the rest facilities–which often feature a gymnasium, walking track, and more–is actually free. Plus, most fitness classes only cost $3 to attend.

Nashville Public Library
Turns out, there’s more to the library than books! The Nashville Public Library also offers free exercise, meditation, cooking, and other healthy living events at all 21 locations. Did we mention there’s a lot of other free stuff offered by the Nashville Public Library, too?

Metro Parks Greenways and Trails
If there’s no safe place to walk or run in your neighborhood, Davidson County has over 80 miles of greenways and over 190 miles of trails that are free for public use. Want to get outside for a brisk evening stroll? Go to your nearest Nashville greenway!

YMCA of Middle Tennessee
The YMCA might be a more affordable option than you think.  Thanks to the Open Doors Charitable Assistance Program, they offer membership rates for their state-of-the-art fitness centers on a sliding scale depending on your household income. To find out if you qualify for assistance, download an application and bring it to your local Y along with your most recent tax return or proof of income for the last 30 days.

While you’re working on your physical fitness, it’s a good time to make sure your auto insurance policy from Direct Auto & Life Insurance is in good shape, too! Are you getting all the discounts you’re entitled to? Get a free policy review and find out when you visit your local Direct store or call 1-877-GO-DIRECT!
